Westport back to Galway: The Burren. Again.
Well, after going to Westport and seeing Connemara
I realized that there wasn't too much else to see
that interested me besides the 12 Bens and lots and
lots and lots and lots and lots of peat. Not extremely
varied in the geography. In addition, once night
came around while on my trip I had nothing to do
since I don't really drink and hanging out in smokey
pubs wasn't something I really wanted to do. So,
from Westport I took a trip out to Achill Island
and scared the shit out of myself getting to the
end of the island (very scary road) and then headed
back to Galway. Galway was the only place I felt
comfortable just walking around given it's size (100,000+
people). Plus, I had found a really neat
B & B that was within five minute's walk
from the center of Galway. So, Galway it
was. It was probably one of the best things
I decided to do on my trip.

I was standing probably twenty feet off of
Corkscrew drive at sunset looking around for
good shots of The Burren. I had taken a few
already, but wasn't really happy with the light
which was hazy and wasn't getting the detail that
I wanted. I turned around to look up the hill
towards my car when the rocks slapped me up 'side
the head. This says a hell of a lot more about
The Burren than a photo of the rocky hills
(as far as I'm concerned). |

Perhaps my favorite photo of the entire trip.
This is at the edge of the road on N67 somewhere
between Ballyvaughn and Kinvara (sorry I don't
remember the exact location). The sunset was yielding
an amazing light. I came to a screeching halt
in the car and hauled my gear out. |
